Making stops at King KongÕs Skull Island and Darth VaderÕs Death Star, the Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will take audiences on a movie matte painting journey on Monday, December 10, at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood with the presentation ÒFantastic Reality: The Magic and Mystery of Movie Matte Painting,Ó exploring the long history of the traditional method of creating Òvirtual sets,Ó as well as a new exhibition, ÒPlaying God: The Art and Artists of Matte Painting,Ó featuring several of the matte paintings created for such films as «Forbidden Planet» (1956), pictured here, ÒThe Wizard of OzÓ (1939), ÒSpartacusÓ (1960) and ÒThe BirdsÓ (1963).
